A preacher was asked, “What is a Christian?” Upon reflection, he gave this answer:
A Christian is one who is saved
“Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (2 Tim. 1:9).
A Christian is one who is sealed
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Eph. 1:13).
A Christian is one who is seated
“And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6).
A Christian is one who is sanctified
“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Cor. 6:11).
A Christian is one who is secure
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28).
A Christian is one who is separated
“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (John 17:16).
A Christian is one who is sustained
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (2 Cor. 9:8).
A Christian is one who is a son of God
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14).
A Christian is one who is a saint
“Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours” (1 Cor. 1:2).
A Christian is one who is a servant
“Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ” (Col. 3:24).
A Christian is one who is a suppliant
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1 Tim. 2:1).
A Christian is one who is a soldier
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Tim. 2:3).
A Christian is one who is a spiritual house
“Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).
A Christian is one who is a stranger
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11).
A Christian is one who is a sheep
“For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls” (1 Peter 2:25).
A Christian is one who is a steward
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10).
A Christian is one who is a sufferer
“Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator” (1 Peter 4:16-19).
A Christian is one who will see the Lord
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).
