On June 17, 1858 a speech was made in Springfield, Illinois. The speaker himself had just been nominated for the U.S. Senate. The convention that nominated him invited the new candidate to come and address the assembly. The candidate came, bowed to the applause and cheers and, for the first time in his life, read a speech from a manuscript. He began with these words:
“Mr. President and Gentlemen of the Convention. If we could first know where we are, and whither we are tending, we could better judge what to do, and how to do it. We are now far into the fifth year since a policy was initiated with the avowed object and confident promise of putting an end to slavery agitation. Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has not only not ceased, but has constantly augmented. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. ‘A house divided against itself cannot stand.’
I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved—I do not expect the house to fall—but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.”
Mr. Abraham Lincoln, like the Lord Jesus whom he quoted, was right. A house divided against itself cannot stand.
The familiar adage, “Those who do not know history, are doomed to repeat it”, is proving to be a true concept.
In America, in the summer of 2020, there is a growing racial divide that will continue to be “augmented” because it is fueled by historical ignorance, emotional immaturity, and irrational hatred in the heart of many.
Not until ALL LIVES MATTER again will the racial divide be closed, the love of Christ be manifested, and the character of the person be honored over the color of their skin.
Truth will one day prevail over tribalism, but not before many lives have been lost, bodies have been injured, fortunes lost, and looters embolden to destroy the property of others.
The mindless barbarians, with their silly slogans, are not just at the gates, they are establishing their little caliphates, and so must be utterly. and ruthlessly. destroyed as the American Taliban they are.
One day a strong leader will emerge to say, “This far, and no further.”
Every good and decent American will rally around that strong, and righteous person, and peace will be restored. The sword of justice will be unsheathed.
Christians can pray for a righteous “David” to arise to reunite and lead the nation. He is somewhere in the streets of America’s society. He has yet to emerge.
Do not look to the White House, the Senate, or the Congress for this strong leader. He is not there.
Do not place your hopes and dreams in the Supreme Court, military might, or the police for this righteous. and fearless man. He is not there.
Church, look to God.
God, not government is going to save America, if America is going to be rescued. God will send a man of His own choosing, but not before the nation is violently shaken by the Lord in His holy wrath over the national sins of homosexuality, abortion, drug addiction, divorce, and wanton destruction of private property. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are riding together, by day and by tonight, as Conquest, War, Famine, Pestilence and Death. America is in trouble.
A house divided cannot stand.
What is true in society is true in religion. A divided heart cannot worship the Lord. The professing Christian must determine to be wholly for God, or be done with religion. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. The cure for a divided heart is to seek the Lord. The Bible says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
