Remember the Amorites and the Saturation of Sin in a Nation: “For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.” (Gen. 15:16)

In the midst of this cultural madness there is some good news. The sovereign rule of the nations has been placed in the nail pierced hands of Jesus Christ. He is called the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. When the rulers of earth meet in their parliaments, or gather in their congressional chambers, Jesus Christ sovereignly attends over the affairs of state, for God the Father has “set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” (Eph. 1:20-23)

The Scriptures teach the subjugation of the nations to the sovereign rule of King Jesus. With that concept in mind, the church has a right to address the nations of the earth, and call them to repentance, and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

If the fate of a nation is left to the scheming, power, and policies of men, then all is lost. There is no future. There is only a date with self-annihilation, for mankind is incurably self-destructive. The pattern for this behavior was fixed in the Garden of Eden, when the Federal Representative of Humanity chose death over life, and love for a fellow creature, over love for God.

However, if Almighty God rules over the nations, if the Lord God Omnipotent holds the reins of government, then there is hope. Perhaps God will have mercy. Perhaps He will cause individuals to listen, and then in matchless grace, send His Spirit to convert souls whom He has chosen for eternal life.

Whatever God chooses to do, there is another truth that remains constant, and that is the just accountability of the nations to God. It was not to Israel alone that God gave the Moral Law. Israel was to disseminate the gospel to the other nations of the earth, so that universally it can be said, “Thou shalt no other gods beside the Lord.” “Thou shalt not kill.” Thou shalt not steal.” “Thou shalt not covet.” And all the rest. The Moral Law is universal, making individuals who violate the Moral Law accountable to the Lawgiver.

God judges the nations of the earth. He does it in time, and He will perform a final judgment at the end of time. The Psalmist understood God’s sovereign right to judge all nations, and cried, “Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.” (Psalm 82:8) The nations are accountable to God who will one day turn the wicked into hell, and all the nations that have forgotten Him. “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)

Individuals forget God in general revelation, as Stephen Hawking did when he said, “One can’t prove that God doesn’t exist, but science makes God unnecessary.” How foolish was this physicist who gazed into the heavens, but could not see the glory of God, or His handiwork though each was declared.

Individuals forget God in special revelation, even after the gospel is revealed to them personally. Like Demas, who loved the world more than the Lord, individuals turn away from the truth. The Evil One comes to snatch the good seed from their hearts lest it should germinate and they be saved. The Devil comes to blind spiritual eyes so that the gospel light goes out, and they grope in moral darkness and sexual perversions like the Sodomites of old.

This does not remove individual and collective accountability, but it does reveal a tragic reality. Because individuals sin, and, collectively nations sin, God, in righteousness, is compelled to judge them. Sometimes the judgment of God is severe and extensive.

When Abraham asked why his descendants would have to be enslaved for four generations, the answer was given. “For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.”

The Amorites was one of seven major tribes that inhabited Canaan. They occupied the western highlands. Morally and socially the Amorites were a wicked people, saturated with incredible acts of perversion. Some of the perversions of the Amorites are listed in Leviticus 18 and 20. The Bible reveals what they were doing before God cast them by force out of the land under the leadership of Joshua. The Canaanites (Amorites) were engage in incest of every form, bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism, abortion on demand, and the sacrificing of children to Molech.

God gave the Canaanites four hundred years to repent, and then cast the inhabitants out because their quota of iniquity became full.

If there is a message to America by way of application, it is this. Beware of the nation becoming saturated with iniquity. When society is saturated, when America’s iniquity quota is full, God will cast her inhabitants out.

The process has begun with the invasion of illegal immigrants along the southern border. Each year, by the hundreds of thousands, illegal aliens invade the land while the Congressional and state leadership staggers about liken drunken fools, not knowing what to do, and paralyzed to do anything reasonable to save America.

Many have wondered why a Republican Congress, with a Republican president, cannot defund Planned Parenthood, which, like the Amorites of old, offers the bloody sacrifice of children to the goddess of Political Correctness. The iniquity of America is being filled. God is not going to judge America. God has already judged America, and what the world is witnessing is the outworking of a judgment already passed. Remember the Amorites.
