On December 21, 2015, National Correspondent Hunter Walker filed the following column. “On Dec. 16, Wheaton College, an evangelical Christian school in Illinois, announced that one of its political science professors, Larycia Hawkins, had been put on “paid administrative leave in order to give more time to explore theological implications of her recent public statements concerning Christianity and Islam.” In a Facebook post published six days before she was placed on leave, Hawkins wrote that Christians and Muslims “worship the same God.” Hawkins had also taken to wearing an Islamic headscarf on campus in what she described as a gesture of “embodied solidarity” with Muslims.

Carson is an outspoken Christian, and support from evangelicals has helped make him one of the leaders in the GOP presidential primary. Yahoo asked him about the idea that Christians and Muslims worship the “same” God.

“Let me put it this way, I believe there is only one God. OK?” Carson said, adding, “A lot of people have different impressions and different ideals of who that is, and some people have perhaps distorted the character, but I believe there’s one God.”

Yahoo also asked Carson whether he thought Wheaton was right to discipline Hawkins. He suggested the school should be fostering “dialogue.”

“I think the school really should have people engage in dialogue about it, dialogue about their different ideals and philosophies,” said Carson. “That’s the only way you make progress. To get in your separate corners and throw daggers at each other is never going to work.”

As a conservative Christian, if these words are correctly quoted, I find the response of Dr. Carson, a good, decent, and honorable man, to be politically correct, but spiritually disappointing. The Muslim god, named Allah, is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Allah is not the God of Biblical revelation. He is the machination of the individual who founded the Islamic religion. Dr. Carson knows that.

Of course there should be discussion of the Islamic god, Allah, but not by a professor who does not know the difference between the true God of revelation and the god of a man’s imagination. Wheaton College has a right to plant its doctrinal flag and say, “This is what we believe. Any professor who cannot agree to our doctrinal statement should immediately do the honorable thing and resign. If not, they shall be dismissed.” Christian parents are not supporting Wheaton College to have professors paid for undermining the Christian faith, and creating confusion, and doubt in the minds of their children.

I understand that Dr. Carson is trying to be politically savvy, and worldly wise in his answer, and he was. But he knows better. God is not honored by suggesting that He is like Allah. God is a jealous God. There is to be no other God before Him, for there is no other god. “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” (Ex. 34:14).

The Arab god, Allah, is associated with the Quran. Allah is not the God of the Bible. Allah is not the god whom Christians worship, for Christians recognize the triune God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Allah, the god of the Arabs, in the Quran, commands his vicious and devout followers to kill Christians and Jews, which is why faithful Muslims wage Jihad (“qitl fee Sybil Allah”, “fight/ kill for the sake of Allah).

How many Americans have to die in the name of Allah, before it is clearly understood that the god Allah is not the God that gave His only begotten Son to die so that bloodshed and violence can cease? The bombing of the USS Cole, the collapse of the World Trade Center, the massacre at Fort Hood, the San Bernardino slaughter, reveals who Allah is, and who his bloodthirsty followers are. The professor at Wheaton College betrayed her privilege to teach there, for truth should be taught at a Christian college, not lies about the Lord.
