In recent days, through major news organizations, the world is being compelled to pay attention to Bruce Jenner as he struggles with his personal identify. Though made a man in the image of God, though the 1976 gold medal winner of the decathlon in the Summer Olympics held in Montreal, though the father of two daughters, Bruce Jenner wants society to see him as a woman.

Only the Word of God can adequately explain why this is happening. The Bible reveals that there are individuals who, “Professing themselves to be wise,” have become foolish. “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen” (Rom. 1:22, 24-25). With his obsession for looking youthful and pretty, at age 65, Bruce Jenner is focused upon serving himself, a creature, more than honoring the Creator.

Ironically, it is not unusual anymore to hear news commentators, or even the President of the United States asking, “What would Jesus do?” or, “What would Jesus say?” about a particular current event. Therefore, let us pose that question to the behavior of Bruce Jenner. “What would Jesus say?”

Since the behavior of Bruce Jenner includes sexual promiscuity, Jesus might very well say, “Bruce, I do not condemn you, so go now, and sin no more.” In other words, the day of ultimate judgment has not arrived.

What the gospel of redeeming grace is saying to Bruce Jenner is this: “Bruce, you have time to repent. You have time to be converted. You have time to stop this inappropriate behavior. Now go, and sin no more.”

There are compelling reasons why Bruce Jenner should stop his reckless behavior of trying to transform himself into a woman.

First, what Bruce Jenner is doing is against nature. Whatever physical changes Jenner makes to his body, he will always be a man, and as a man he will have to give an account of what he has done with his body. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10).

Second, Bruce Jenner is not living in touch with reality, and that is mentally unhealthy. Like so many others, Bruce is creating for himself an alternative universe. Pretending that words mean something they do not, and pretending that behavior means something it is not, is simply unreal. For this reason alone, Bruce Jenner is a man to be pitied and prayed for.

There was a time when American society was concerned enough to institutionalize individuals who behaved as Bruce Jenner is behaving. But, then, in 1951, in Copenhagen, Denmark, a social revolution took place. William Jorgensen, Jr. underwent a sex reassignment surgery and became Christine Jorgensen. Since then, society at large has been enabling individuals to live in an alternative universe.

Nevertheless, individuals do not benefit by existing in a world of delusional beliefs. And, just because something can be done medically, such as a sex reassignment operation, does not mean it should be done.

Third, Bruce Jenner is leading other people into inappropriate behavior. As a role model, Bruce Jenner is influencing others, including young people who admire and respect him. Among the people being influenced by the behavior of Bruce Jenner are his own children and grandchildren.

Jesus said it would be better to be drowned in the depths of the sea than to cause a child to sin. “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matt. 18:6).

Apart from spiritual revival, there is no hope that American society will come to its collective senses and return to reality. With the past as a guide to the future, there is a high level of certainty that God will allow sin to continue to saturate American society, and then He will destroy America as a nation, and sweep it into the dustbin of history. At that point, God will create a new nation, or many new nations.  America will probably one day look more like Europe, with many nations having been made from the former states.

It is not hard to predict that one day the Statue of Liberty will disappear as completely as the Colossus of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes stood for 54 years, and then was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC. Because Lady Liberty is becoming the symbol of Lady Licentiousness, the grace that God has shed upon America for so long will cease, and blessing will be turned to cursing. In fact, the behavior of Bruce Jenner is a sign that God’s judgment upon America has already begun, in that the Lord is giving individuals over to an, adikos, a reprobate, or wicked mind, to do those things which ought not to be done (Rom. 1:28). It is a sobering thought. It is meant to be.
